This historic and emblematic company has its beginnings in the 15th century, and since 1782 the property gets the name of Cartavio. In 1872, W. R. Grace & Co. acquires Cartavio, extending the sowing area as well as the manufacturing facilities. Years later, in 1968, the company becomes a cooperative. In April 1996, by owners decision, it becomes an anonymous society, and in April 1997 gets its current denomination, Complejo Agroindustrial Cartavio S.A.A. In October 1998, the major stockholder of Cartavio, Azucagro S.A, assumed the control of the enterprise.
Cartavio joins the Gloria Group on March 3, 2007 through the acquisition of 52% of the share of stock by its subsidiary Corporacion Azucarera del Peru S.A. (COAZUCAR). The complex is located by the left margin of the Chicama river, in the Santiago de Cao district, Ascope province, La Libertad department.
The main economic activity of the complex consists in the growth and industrialization of sugar cane, as well as the commercialization of the products and sub products that derive from the main activity. Cartavio produces sugar, which represents the 85.5% of the sales and the remaining 11.5% belongs to molasses, alcohol and bagasse sales.
At the moment, the complex elaborates white and brown sugar for both domestic and industrial consumption, following international parameters in its procedures. Cartavio's production is commercialized in the peruvian market and allows also the exportation of sugar to other markets, such as the American.
Among the manufacturing operations is the production of alcohol, and it can be stated that Cartavio is the only agricultural complex in Peru that owns facilities for the production of ethanol. At the moment, Cartavio exports ethyl alcohol to markets such as the european, and soon will produce anhydrous alcohol (ethanol), destined to replace fuels.
Cartavio owns 11 000 cultivated acres that added to the properties of Empresa Agroindustrial Casa Grande S.A.A., Sintuco S.A. and Chiquitoy S.A., place the Gloria Group as the first agroindustrial group of Peru. For more information, please visit: www.complejocartavio.com.pe
